Top Shop
The latest trends and designs made for a low cost. You won''t get top quality cashmere here, but affordable, young styles for men and women. There are many branches throughout the UK but the Oxford Street store is one of the largest and well designed in the UK. There is even a section selling second hand clothes, and the profits from trendy retro wear go to developing countries…a fashion shop with a conscience.

Egg
Egg sells things at the opposite end of the spectrum from high street fashion. It''s an unusual shop selling exquisitely made clothes, just round the corner from Harvey Nichols. The long jackets are inspired by Indian and Chinese designs and are fit for empresses and the discerning customer. Expensive, but elegant clothing, maybe to keep as heirlooms.

Marks and Spencers
Undoubtedly one of the household names in Europe, this extensive chain still provides well made clothes, food and household items for the British public. Although their continental stores have been closed for nearly a year now due to financial losses, they have revived their fortunes by inviting some inventive designers to revitalise their fashionwear. This has paid off and this is one of the best places to go for anything from a cashmere coat, pair of linen trousers or a lacy bra. There are also menswear and children's sections and the ubiquitous M&S sandwich is a reliable standby for thousands of office workers throughout the land.
