La Fidula
Originally a grocery, this venue is a club that presents chamber music concerts every night in a neighbourhood surrounded by hard rock, discos, and jazz clubs. Concerts are given each night at 11.30 pm, and on weekends there is also a later show at 1 am. A bit of an anomoly in the context of the area, this club has still got up quite a following. Performances are taken seriously as in regular classical venues, and late arrivals will not be seated.
Opening times: Mon - Thurs and Sun 7 pm - 3 am, Fri and Sat 7 pm - 4 am

Teatro Real
This magnificent theatre is known as one of the best opera halls in Europe because of its unsurpassed acoustics and modern facilities and is home to the Compañia del Teatro Real, a leading Spanish opera company. As well as opera, a number of concerts, plays and dance performances are regularly put on here. The hall was originally built in 1817 at the order of Fernando VII, and opened in 1850. It enjoyed many years of great success, but deteriorated in the early 20th century and had to be closed down because of disrepair. In the 1960s it was renovated and reopened, and the concert hall was improved as recently as 1997. It now includes 1,745 seats and has a state-of-the-art stage as well as a unique lobby. One of the intereresting features is the unusual hexagonal floor plan of the entire building.
