A relatively new restaurant in a convenient location in the centre, Sanabresa serves Mediterranean and Catalan dishes. The décor is very stylish and creates a sophisticated atmosphere. The specials feature seafood, succulent meats, carpaccio with almonds, and sautéed mushrooms with cod. All the ingredients are of the very freshest quality. Prices are relatively high. Reservations are recommended.

Samara
This is a very small Arabic/Mediterranean restaurant located in one of Madrid’s popular nightlife areas. The main feature of the lunch menu is pita bread sandwiches, which come with a variety of fillings and accompaniments and are served with a tasty sauce. The menu also has specialties such as lamb kebabs, shawarma, babaganush and humus served with freshly baked bread. The baklava for dessert is highly recommended. Prices are low, averaging around € 15. It is best to make a reservation.

Balzac
The home of a well-known chef, Andrés Madrigal, this restaurant cultivates a special flair. The cuisine is basically Mediterranean, though have some contemporary and creative elements thrown in. The dishes are all exceptionally tasty with just the right seasonings and sauces, and the featured ingredients are fresh fish, wild game and whatever vegetables are in season. The desserts are light and delicious, and one of the recommendations is the strawberry and mint sorbet. There are also many fine wines to choose from here. The average price for a meal is around € 35.
De Vinis
This recently-opened restaurant features a mix of Mediterranean and Basque cuisine. It is rather trendy, but the quality of the food is high. The menu is detailed with much to choose from, and dishes include foie gras cannelloni with poached eggs, salmon and duck’s liver in filo pastry, grilled sea bass and other fish, hake cheeks, and roast lamb in gravy. They offer a different kind of wine to complement each course, and you can also buy bottles to take away. Prices are not cheap, and you can expect to pay around € 40 for a meal.

La Separata
This is a posh restaurant frequented by many opera and theatre fans attending the Teatro de la Zarzuela, which is across the street, as well as politicans from the nearby government buildings. The decorative Baroque interior gives it an elegant and elite atmosphere. The food is Mediterranean and features dishes such as savoury rice with red prawns, comfit of red snapper, duck’s liver with grapes and wine sauce, and grilled vegetable kebabs. The desserts are vergy good as well. There is a set meal for only € 12. Reservations are recommended. The average cost is between € 25 - 30.
