This is the oldest restaurant in the city, having opened in 1725. It is very famous and has become somewhat of a tourist attraction. Don’t let this put you off, however, as the food is excellent and unique and a good number of locals eat here as well. Famous people associated with the restaurant include the painter Goya, who worked here for a time before he became a painter, and Ernest Hemingway, who was a regular and considered it one of his favourite restaurants. The specialties here include roast suckling pig, roast lamb and a variety of seafood dishes. The restaurant is very large, with four floors of dining rooms, decorated with tiles on the walls. You will occasionally find live music here, often played by students wearing traditional dress.
