Artemisa
A well-established restaurant, Artemisa has been popular with vegetarians and health food enthusiasts for decades. It is located right in the center of Madrid, and simply but charmingly decorated. The menu is fairly basic, but offers genuinely tasty food in the form of pizzas, organic gaspacho, vegetable curries, a variety of salads and more. The house specialty is oven-roasted vegetables, and the eggplant is particularly good. Fruit juices are the featured drink, fresh-squeezed and in delicious combinations. There are also several wines, some of which are organic. Prices are very low, averaging around € 12.

Gaudí
This restaurant features some eccentric and creative combinations, but also some classic gourmet food, at very reasonable prices. Not all the dishes are vegetarian, but the majority are. Specialties include fried camembert with blueberries, roasted vegetables, hummus and fresh bread, and also some meat and fish dishes. The desserts are particularly good, such as yoghurt capricho and white chocolate mousse with poppy seeds. You can get the daily set menu for only € 6, one of the best deals you’ll find anywhere.

El Estragón Vegetariano
This lively restaurant is located on the old Plaza de la Paja, a very scenic medieval square. It’s in a festive nightlife area, surrounded by bars, and has a relaxed and hip atmosphere. The dining areas are divided over three levels, and you can either sit at a table or at the bar for tapas and drinks. Specials include fried garlic cheese, stuffed peppers, avocado salad, leek gratin and for dessert, chocolate cake with truffles. Everything is vegetarian. There is a nice wine list, mostly featuring Spanish wines. The average cost for a meal here is around € 20.
