La Casa del Libro
This is the most popular and well-known bookshop in the city. It is large and has a wide selection of both Spanish and foreign language books. With five floors of merchandise in total, the books are well-organized by category and include genres such as fiction/literature, children’s books, travel, nonfiction/essays, dictionaries, foreign languages, and textbooks. If they don’t have the book you’re looking for, you can order it and pick it up later at no extra cost.

Bookcenter
This is a nice bookshop of moderate size, with a wide variety of well-chosen works. It carries most of the major recent literary releases and popular fiction, and is also dedicated to the classics. It’s longer hours make it a convenient place to shop, and you can find some great bargains here during their sale and special offer periods.

La Cuesta de Moyano
A unique book market open only on Sundays, this is a great place to come to browse, and has a number of old and rare books. The street in which it is located has been famous for its books for generations, and you can count on finding some interesting surprises here. Many of the books are used and many of the new ones are discounted. The market is nearby to attractions such as the Botanical Gardens, the Prado Musuem and the El Rastro market.

FNAC
A megastore of books, music and more, FNAC is a popular place to browse, and one of the places that is most likely to have whatever you are looking for. Made up of four floors, it includes a wide range of books and CDs, focusing on new releases, but with classics and specialty items well-represented as well. The store offers a permanent 5% discount on all articles, and you can also place orders here and receive books from elsewhere in Spain, France, the UK and the US. They occasionally hold book signings, live concerts and other interesting events here.
