Culture
Milan’s cultural scene is very interesting and varied. It includes bits and pieces for every kind of interest no matter if traditional art or avant-garde. Of course a visit of Milan’s Scala should not be missed out from a journey through the cultural adventures of the city. People speaking Italian should regard a visit at the Piccolo Theatre which is the most important address after the Scala and which is known for its fabulous productions. Besides there are a couple of small theatres as Teatro Grassi in Via Rovello, Teatro Studio in Via Rivoli and Teatro Strehler in Largo Greppi. At any time there are small festivals or arrangements taking place all over the city which makes Milan to a city that never sleeps but always runs. Especially during summer there are many jazz festivals, theatre and dance events. Also religious festivities are highly recommended as they are the nicest and most charming events in Milan. Fans of opera and classical music can try venues like the Auditorium di Milano or the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi dance lovers try the Scala where the famous ballet school “Scuola di ballo del Teatro alla Scala” has its home.
But Milan is also very interesting for literary people as many publishing houses have settled here and made Milan to an important centre for the publishing industry. People can easily spend there time in the Galleria Emmanuele II drinking a coffee and forage for nice books in the close-by bookstores Zanichielli and Ricordi. The Biblioteca Ambrosia which belongs to the art gallery hosts many nice pieces and documents from Leonardo da Vinci and many other historical master pieces. The best event table is released on Wednesdays in Corriere della Sera (www.corriere.it). Also the monthly magazine “Milano mese” has much information about what is going on in the city. It is free of charge and is available in all tourist information centres and most of the hotels.
