Pinacoteca Brera
This picture gallery was founded at the request of Napoleon Bonaparte. It has possesses many pieces of art that were confiscated in churches and monasteries all over Europe including works from the 14th to the 20th century from for example Piero della Francesca (Pala di Urbino), Raffaello (Sposalizio della Vergine), Mantenga (Cristo Morto), Bramante and Caravaggio. In the courtyard there is a beautiful statue of napoleon that was made by Can ova.
Pinacoteca Ambrosiana
Opened in 1609 the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana is the oldest museum in Milan. It displays many masterpieces from Caravaggio, Leonardo da Vinci, Giovanni Ambrogio De Predis , Botticelli, Tiziano, Raffael and Barocci. The renovation of the picture gallery made it possible that one of the oldest and most precious cultural institutions in Europe could be redressed. Ambrosiana also possesses an important library which includes codes, scripts and antique books.
