Bavarian National Museum
The Bavarian National Museum is one of the biggest artistic and historic museums in Europe. It presents a varied collection of art, craftwork and folklore that does not only cover the Bavarian area. Gothic sculptures and goldsmith art of the late renaissance as well as precious tapestry and jewellery from baroque and rococo create a vivid picture of past times. Paintings, clocks and pictures made from ivory complete the collection of Bavarian and European art. Exhibits are for example from Erasmus Grasser, Tilman Riemenschneider, Hans Leinberger, Adam Kraft, Giovanni Bologna, Hubert Gerhard , Adriaen de Vries, Johann Baptist Straub, Ferdinand Tietz, Simon Troger, Ignaz Günther and Ludwig Schwanthaler.
The museum was founded in 1855 by King Maximilian II. and is located in an inventive building in the style of historism. It belongs to the most important museum constructions of its time.

Munich City Museum
The City Museum in Munich exhibits documents about the city’s history but also shows special exhibitions regarding topics like the international civil and cultural history. At the moment the museum is restored and only in 2008 it will open its doors to present a new permanent exhibition that spreads over 3 floors. The exhibitions about photography, musical instruments, puppet theatre and contemporary history are still accessible. There are also special guided tours available as well as screenings of the film museum and concerts of the museum for musical instruments.

Archäologische Staatssammlung (Archeological National Collection)
This precious collection depicts the first settlements in Bavaria starting with the settlements in the Old Stone Age to the Roman period and the early Middle Ages. The exhibits include rich grave decorations, treasures of gold and special art pieces that give an insight into the world of gods of the Celts, Romans and Germanic people.

Jewish Museum Munich
The Jewsih Museum is part of the new architectural ensemble at the St.-Jakobs-Platz and it functions as a connection between the Jewish community centre and the new synagogue. The 900 m² exhibition space spreads over three floors and hosts a permanent exhibition about Jewish life in Munich as well as changing exhibitions to Jewish history and culture and other related topics. The ground floor houses a Jewish bookstore and a café.

German Theatre Museum
This museum at the Hofgarten in Munich preserves and documents the theatrical history of Munich, Bavaria and Germany. The unique stock includes layouts for costumes and stage designers, construction plans for theatres as well as collections of photographs, direction books and theatre programmes. Furthermore, a special library with 100.000 books and a diversity of special exhibitions regarding the latest results in theatre research or non-European forms of theatre give an insight into the world of acting. The collection was established by the famous actress Clara Ziegler who donated her villa in the English Garden in 1909. In September 1979 Bavaria turned the German Theatre Museum into a national museum.

Toy Museum
The Toy Museum was opened in 1983 by Ivan Steiger who used his passion for toys to create this fabulous exhibition. It hosts the biggest collection of old European and American toys from dolls and puppets to doll houses, planes, teddy bears, zoos with animals and much more. Four floors in the tower of the Old City Hall are dedicated to the toys of old times and impress young and old likewise.

Valentin-Karlstadt-Musäum
The Valentin-Musäum is an exhibition which is dedicated to the comedian Karl Valentin. But the in 1959 opened museum has now the name Valentin-Karlstadt-Musäum in order to appreciate Valentine’s partner Liesl Karlstadt. The exhibition includes many pictures, humoristic documents and curiosities. But also an exhibition about folk singers in Munich belongs to the museum.

Beer and Oktoberfest Museum
The museum is dedicated to beer and the Oktoberfest which is no wonder since Munich has 6 breweries and the famous Hofbräuhaus. Since September 2005 visitors can learn more about the history of beer, the quality of beer as well as the production and the purity requirements. Furthermore, the museum depicts the history of the Oktoberfest from being a national festivity to the wedding of King Ludwig I. and Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen to becoming the biggest folk festival in the world. The museum is located in an old middle-class house from 1327 which is actually already an attraction itself.

National Museum of Egyptian Art
The collection unites fascinating pieces of art including a unique stock of old Egyptian sculptures. A highlight of the museum is definitely the collection of master pieces of old epochs from antiquity to the Greek- Roman era. Sculptures, jewellery, cult objects and papyri give an impressive overview over art and culture, religion and the belief in afterlife in Old Egypt.

German Museum
The German Museum houses an immense amount of technical achievements like sailing ships, atomic models, wind mills, space crafts, diesel locomotives, industrial robots, organs and much more. It is not only one of the first technical and scientific museums in the world but with 50.000 m² of exhibition space it is also one of the biggest ones. If you are interested in science and mechanics this is the right place to go because every matter that is shown from instruments to technical methods, is explained on a high academic level but still easily and entertainingly presented so that everybody can follow. More than 1 million people visit the museum per year in order to be conveyed with a widespread knowledge of science and technics. Besides, the museum is connected to the new communication centre in the old exhibition hall as well as the dockyard for airplanes in Oberschleißheim which possesses a variety of planes.

Museum Humans and Nature
This museum presents a time travel through the history of our planet and the human being. Explanations and exhibits show vividly how the planetary system developed and geological excursions are offers to make science more tangible. The museum is located in the north wing of the castle Nymphenburg where adventures for our senses inspire young and old. Every Friday there is a free guide through the different fields of interest.
The museum is handicapped accessible and is endued with a café and a museum’s shop.

Museum for Paleontology
The animal and flora of the primitive times are exhibited in the Museum for Paleontology. Highlights are the Mühldorf Ur-Elephant, the three horned dinosaur, a sword tooth cat amd the biggest and smallest dinosaur of Bavaria. There is also an exhibition dedicated to the history of development of the human being.

BMW Museum
Since its opening in 1973 the BMW Museum at the Olympia Tower belongs to the most attractive tourist magnets of Munich. It is located next to the corporate group hall and close to the Olympia centre. At the moment the museum is reconstructed and innovatively changed. During the reconstruction work BMW Mobile Tradition presents on 1200 m² a special exhibition of cars of the BMW Mobile Tradition. Changing exhibitions present the history of BMW highlighting a great collection of cars.
