Public Transportation
Munich has a dense network of S- and U-Bahn, tram and bus lines which make it comfortable and easy for visitors to get around the city. The disadvantage is that all line run together in the city centre which means that you have to take a detour through the city in order to get into one of the suburban regions. During the night normal lines are not operating but there are night lines for busses and trams. The transport runs from 5 am to 1 am and on Saturdays and public holidays until 2.30 am. The comprehensive transport network is run by the Münchener Verkehrs- und Tarifverbund GmbH (MVV). Tickets are available at the blue ticket machines and from ticket outlets. They must be validated at special machines. Some of the new trams, however, pre-validated tickets are available. Both 1-day and 3-day passes are available and up to five adults travelling together can save money by buying group tickets (Partner Tickets).
