Naples offers many shopping opportunities to suit all budgets and tastes. The city’s bustling markets are an important part of Neapolitan life and are interesting and atmospheric places to shop. There are a wide range of markets, large and small, regular and seasonal, selling just about anything. To buy local handmade products typical of Naples, the Quartieri Spagnoli (Spanish quarter) is one of the ideal places to look around. This neighbourhood still has the greatest number of old craftman’s shops. The Via Toledo and Via Chiaia are big shopping streets, specializing in shoes and clothes. The boutiques on and around Via Chiaia tend to be more expensive and higher quality. Via Port’Alba and Via dei Tribunali are known for their bookshops, both new and second hand, as well as several junk shops. July and August is a period of big summer sales when people flock to the shops in pursuit of bargains. During these months many stores are also closed on Saturday afternoons or the whole of Saturday.
