Musee Carnavalet
This old-fashioned museum in the former Hôtel le Pelletier de Saint-Fargeau focuses on the history of the city of Paris. It houses an eclectic display of exhibits and entering it is like stepping back in time. The museum is arranged chronologically from the Renaissance to the French Revolution and the Second Empire.

One of the great art museums in the world, this treasure house of visual art is not to be missed. A Renaissance palace, the museum was originally built as a fortress to defend the city from the Vikings. Not only will you find Leonardo’s enigmatic image of the Mona Lisa here, but also a dazzling array of other works from Renaissance Italy and the Middle Ages, as well as all other periods. Over 6,000 paintings are on display at any given time, and even viewing a small segment of the vast musuem will keep you busy for hours. Paintings by artists such as Cimabue and Piero della Francesca are featured, as well as some works by British artists like Gainsborough and Turner. There are also magnificent displays of Islamic and Egyptian antiquities and Greek and Roman sculptures. Buy your ticket inside of the famous glass pyramid, designed by I.M. Pei in 1989.

La Cité des Sciences in Paris
Located in the Parc de la Villette, the Cité des Sciences is the French national technology and science museum. It was turned into a museum as part of the renovation of the eastern side of Paris in 1984, when the architects transformed former industrial buildings into one of the most remarkable science parks in Europe. Most famous for its large Géode dome and the 180-degree cinema, it contains a fascinating collection of exhibits about science, technology and the natural world.
The Cité des Sciences is for children as well as adults, and the children’s section is called "La cité des enfants". The location of the musuem in the park makes it a peaceful place to visit, and a good opportunity to get out of the city centre and relax for a day.

Musée Rodin
The Musée Rodin is a fine art museum more relaxed and intimate than Le Louvre and much less crowded, too. It is located in the house where Auguste Rodin spent his last years, in an area of the city dominated by government buildings and featuring many impressive 18th-century mansions, but this is the only one open to the public. It features the sculpture work of Rodin and also includes his private art collection. Awe-inspiring bronze and marble statues can be found in the quiet rose garden, and the fascinating "Gates of Hell" at the museum''s entrance are very much worth seeing.
