There are also many clothes and household items, some beauty products, books, CDs and toys. It is not a very large department store, but is very popular, partly because it is one of the cheapest yet still offers high-quality goods. Le Bon Marché
This large department store is renowned for having a good food department. It was the first ''grand magasin'', built by Aristide Boucicaut in 1852, and it soon got a good reputation for having low prices. It is also the only department store on the Left Bank of Paris. The architect incorporated new metal structures which were being developed at the end of the 19th Century into his design and even Gustave Eiffel (who designed the famous tower) was involved. It is a less busy and elegant establishment than the Hausmann Boulevard department stores and also has work by contemporary artists for sale.

Opening times:
Mo, Wed, Fr 9.30 am - 7 pm, Thurs 10 am - 9 pm and Sat 9.30 am - 8 pm

24 rue du Sèvres
75006 Paris

This large, classic department store was built in 1903 in an Art Nouveau style, giving it an old-fashioned charm. It is located on the river Seine and sells almost everything. There is a café at the top of the building on a roof terrace, open from spring to fall.
