Riga appears as a gastronomic paradise of Northern Europe with all its lovely cafés and restaurants which will satisfy the tastes and desires of nearly everybody. For breakfast Riga traditionally offers some coffee, some wonderful bacon-stuffed buns and overnight baked pîrâgi. Strangely enough it is not uncommon to accompany these things with a small glass of Black Balsam liqueur. Highly recommended are restaurants which offer buffets of Latvian food, allowing people to make their own selections as well as restaurants where employees wear stylised folk costumes and offer modern interpretations of traditional Latvian cuisine. But apart from the local cuisine there are a lot of restaurants from other countries which found there way into Riga’s restaurant business. Asian cuisine as Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Indian food can be found next to the warm tastes of the Mediterranean and Moroccan cuisine.
