Rome is well known for it’s diverse culture. No matter what kind of culture events you like, you will definitely find them in Rome. They are dozens museums from ancient history to modern art, many galleries and international dance, music and theatre festivals. Rome's theatres mostly put on plays in Italian, which may be of limited interest to the tourist. However, there are also occasional musicals, dance shows and a few theatres that perform in English. For many it would be a shame to come to Rome and not see at least one opera. Theatre season runs from October to May and it is best to purchase tickets a few days prior the event. During the summer there are hundreds of operas, concerts and recitals performed in the open air in Rome's gardens, parks and monuments. If you are interested in a movie, Rome is blessed with about 80 cinemas, though in recent years many older and smaller venues have closed to make way for larger multi-screen cinemas in the suburbs or outside Rome.
