Vatican Museums
One of the most important museum complexes in the world, the Vatican
Museums are divided into numerous splendidly arranged sections containing
Masterpieces by the greatest artists, which were collected or commissioned
by Popes down through the centuries. At the end of the itinerary is the Sistine
Chapel, where the recent restoration has brought to light the original colours
of the vault and Michelangelo’s Last Judgment, which time had darkened.
Opening Times:
Daily 8.45 am – 1.45 pm.
Closed on January 1st and 6th, February 11th, Easter Monday, May 1st, June 29th, August 15th, November 1st, December 8th, Christmas day and all other religious holidays.

Capitoline Museums
The Capitoline Museums are located in the Palazzo dei Conservatori and the Palazzo Nuovo, and face each other. They were founded in 1471 by the order of Pope Clement XII, and therefore they are considered as the oldest existing public collection in the world. The museum on the left of Michelangelo''s steps is the New Palace that houses one of Europe''s most important collections of sculpture. The second museum, the ''Conservatori,'' houses important paintings such as Caravaggio''s "St John the Baptist" and works by Caravaggio, Guercino, Tintoretto, Annibale Carracci, Paolo Veronese, Scarsellino, Palma il Vecchio, Tiziano, Rubens, Antonio van Dyck, Calvaert, etc.

Museo Nazionale Romano (National Roman Museum)
This is one of the most important archaeological museums in the world; it is split up into five sites. You''ll have to travel around the city in order to see all the archaeological exhibits. This museum hosts mostly Roman sculptures that lie alongside a remarkable display of Baths derived from classical Greece. Roman bathhouses were among the top social gatherings of ancient times. Much of the archaeological collection of Museo Nazionale Romano has been moved to the Palazzo Altemps, and the Palazzo Massimo.

Mon – Sat: 9 am - 1.30 pm & 2.30 pm – 5 pm. Sun and holidays closed.

Palazzo Altemps
This 15-century, beautiful Renaissance palace, which boasts a marvellous courtyard, mainly contains sculptural finest work of Ludovisi, Mattei and Altemps collections. The Ludovisi Orestes and Electra are among the highlights of this museum. These 1st century statues were done by Menelaus (the artist was kind enough to leave his signature).

Palazzo Massimo Alle Terme
The Palazzo Massimo Alle Terme is considered the sister museum to the Palazzo Altemps. Together they form part of the Museo Nazionale Romano. This building, completely restored, holds important statues, splendid floor mosaics that were taken from Roman villas and wall paintings. It’s extremely reach collection is not to be missed.

National Museum of Art and Popular Tradition
The material collected from all over Italy, was put on display first in 1911, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Unity of Italy. This museum is devoted to showcasing Italian folk-art, agriculture, costume, and old musical instruments.
Opening times:
Tue – Fri: 9 am – 6 pm, Sat – Sun and holidays: 9 am – 8 pm. Closed on Monday.
Last entry: 30 min. before closing time.

Keats- Shelley Memorial House
Autographed documents and memoirs concerning the English Romantic poets Keats, Shelley and Byron. Seems strange to travel to Rome to go to a museum dedicated to these authors, but, nonetheless, for literature lovers - a worthwhile visit

Explora, The Children’s Museum of Rome
Explora is a child-sized play town where everything can be observed, touched and experimented with. This museum is the first children’s museum in Italy.
Visitors come into contact with facts, phenomena and everyday events: environment, communication, economy and new technologies.
Children are offered the opportunity to discover the mystery of how things function through observation, touch and experiments, with the help of facilitators.
Opening Times:
Each visit lasts 1 hour and 45 minutes: Tue – Sun: 10 am, 12 am, 3 pm, 5 pm .

National Pasta Museum (Museo Nazionale Delle Paste Alimentari)
The National Museum of Pasta Foods, the only one of its kind in the world, is also a “forwarding” Museum, that is the first ever dedicated to a specific food product. Room after room, you will discover how pasta is made from wheat and what processes are used for mixing and drying it, both in the age-old methods of making pasta by hand and in modern industrial technology: from “rudimental machinery”, such as the first stone grinders, to the modern pasta-making machinery.
