Rotterdam has a hip, active nightlife scene, full of clubs, bars, and entertainment venues. The club scene has something for everyone, ranging from rowdy student hangouts to refined and sedate cocktail lounges. And whether you are into jazz, pop, punk, or folk music, there is a multitude of late-night performance venues, and many bars and clubs have live music on certain nights. Unlike some cities, the nightlife scene in Rotterdam isn’t only clustered in the city. You have to know where to look for some clubs and entertainment spots, and there is much more going on in the city at night than is immediately apparent. There are three main nightlife areas, the first right in the centre around the Stadhuisplein (the city hall square), where there is a whole row full of bars and late-night cafés, the second in the Oude Haven district, and the third in and around the Westelijk handelsterrein area, where there is a concentration of clubs. These of course aren’t the only places where things go on after dark, but are the best places to go if you plan on bar hopping or wandering around to see what attracts you.
