Salzburg offers a shopping adventure of a special kind. Over 800 shops and boutiques provide their visitors with any kind of item they are looking for; from antiques, jewellery, books over music, traditional clothing to designer fashion and gifts for the ones at home. Strolling through the old alleys of the city becomes a special joy when you can drop by at some shops and relax in some nice café, bar or restaurant afterwards. Salzburg’s shops offer a high quality service, a special atmosphere and a broad assortment. The Getreidegasse, which is known for the artistically forged craft signs, attracts visitors with the big names of prestigious designer labels. People looking for a souvenir can check the souvenir shop of the Mozart’s birthplace and stock up on music with original Mozart instruments, books, T-shirts, poster, coins, note paper or postcards. Also many other souvenir shops in the city sell products around Mozart.
Other gifts are illustrated books about the history, culture and art of Salzburg. The options are almost inexhaustible. The city also has many art galleries, second hand bookshops and art dealers that stock old photos, watercolours, drawings and engravings which date back to the late 19th century.
The most famous souvenir is of course the “Original Salzburger Mozartkugeln“, a rum truffle praline with marzipan which was invented in 1890 and is still today a famous and delicious sweet. Also traditional Austrian clothes, like Dirndl made from silk or brocade, and leather fashion have a long tradition and can be purchased in special shops of which there are plenty.
