Tallinn has a wonderful variety of cafés and bars to choose from, nestled into every nook and cranny of the Old Town, and generously scattered throughout the new town. The city is known for its very cosy cafés, which generally have very good coffee and tea and a variety of pastries and possibly more hearty fare. Some cafés feature food and draw a lunch crowd, while others are primarily chocolaties and offer irresistably decadent desserts and hot drinks. It is still possible to find a delightful café with good food and service for very reasonable prices, but there are some posh, more elitist establishments as well.
The bar scene in Tallinn is lively and varied, and no matter what your taste in alcohol or ambience, you can find the place for you. There are trendy local bars, local dives, Irish pubs, chic cocktail lounges, and touristy sports bars, to name but a few. There is a section of rather tawdry bars in the old town catering to the tourist crowd (particularly to the British boozer crowd), but also a wonderful selection of classy yet down-to-earth haunts attracting locals and tourists alike, each with its own unique character and atmosphere.
