This is theatre is home to Tallinn’s most beloved acting company, and also features many dance performances. They are well-known for their artistic, high quality productions, and offer a varied programme every year, including many open-air productions in the summer. The building housing the theatre is also special, a distinctive medieval building with seven different performance spaces. Estonian Drama Theatre
The drama theatre is a unique example of Art Nouveau architecture in Tallinn, which stands out from the other buildings that are mainly medieval or modern. It was built in 1910, and for almost a century has offered a variety of interesting and high-quality productions. Nearly all plays are in Estonian, and range from old classics to contemporary works. A variety of dance performances take place here as well, both ballet and modern.
Von Krahl Theatre
This theatre is dedicated to avant-garde productions of both dance and drama, and is the oldest private theatre in Estonia. It is also one of the leading experimental theatres in the country, and has a core company of six young actors eager to try new things. Shows here are known to combine theatre with elements of cabaret and opera, and many multi-media sound and visuals are incorporated as well. After the show, people like to hang out in the theatre bar and discuss the performance.
