Kehrwieder
This is probably the coolest café in Tallinn and the one with the best hot chocolate, located just off the main square. The atmosphere here is relaxed, hip and bohemian, and the café is located in a basement with a series of cave-like rooms artistically decorated with wall paintings and unusual furniture. There is lots of natural light even though the café is below ground level, coming in from windows up by the ceiling. They feature a delicious and gourmet assortment of homemade cakes, pies, biscuits and more, as well as impeccable coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. If you order hot chocolate, you get to choose between the standard milky variety or a thick, lightly-spiced concoction that tastes like a melted chocolate bar. This is a must-try for anyone who loves chocolate.

Opening times: Daily 11 am - 12 am

Le Bonaparte
Bonaparte is located in an elegant 17th century building, and has a chic and refined atmosphere, but does not feel at all pretentious. The prices aren’t as high as one would expect either, and this is a great place to come for a light meal and a cup of coffee or tea. They offer some gourmet and exotic teas, as well as excellent croissants and other homemade pastries and sandwiches. The café also includes some revolving art exhibits that are always interesting to look at.

Beer House
Located right in the centre of town, the Beer House knows how to grab the attention of passers by with tables spread out into the street, waiters and waitresses dressed up in full folk costumes, and upbeat folk music playing. The atmosphere inside is roughly that of a Bavarian beer hall, and they feature seven kinds of unfiltered, unpasteurised tasty beers. There are often live jazz, blues or folk bands playing here in the evenings.

Café VS
This is a British-run pub and Indian restaurant, already an interesting combination to find in Tallinn, and made more bizarre and eye-catching by the space-age décor. The walls as well as the chairs are made of shining metal, and unusual lights rotate and swivel over the diners. Despite the gimmicks, the food and drink is actually excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed and fun-loving.

Molly Malone''s
This is one of the best bars in Tallinn and even if you’re tired of the ubiquitous Irish pubs, you should pop in here at least once during your visit. Molly Malone’s has the best location of any bar in the city, with a sunny terrace right on the Raekoja Plats, across from the town hall. They have Guinness and many other beers and have a famous breakfast menu that is served all day. They have wifi and often live music on the weekends. This is also a good bar to watch sports in, with multiple big screen TVs.

Nimeta Bar
This bar is a typical British-style bar, with a laid-back atmosphere, cheap beer, a good selection of bar food, and a big screen to watch sports on. Nimeta can get a bit rowdy at times, but that’s all part of the fun. Popular with tourists and locals alike, this is a good place to hang out with your friends and let your hair down.

Von Krahli Baar
This bar is attached to the avant-garde theatre of the same name, and is a popular place to drink and visit before and after the shows. Also busy with a non-theatre related crowd, the bar attracts many on the lookout for a simple, unpretentious watering hole. There is no kitchy décor or loud pop music here, but rather just good beer, cheap and tasty food, and a nice variety of live music acts.
