Shopping
Tallinn is consumer-friendly, as most shops in the Old Town and department stores all over the city are open seven days a week. The elegant boutiques along the Old Town’s Viru and Müürivahe streets are excellent places to find quality fashion, shoes, perfume and similar things. In the New City close by, the big shopping centre “Viru keskus” offers numerous shops ranging from sports and shoes to small cafés and a big supermarket.
You should definitely include the outdoor knit market on Müürivahe street in your shopping tour in Tallinn, where craftswomen sell their knitted products in the shadow of the town wall. Even more adventurous for the eager shopper is the Katariina Passage. Here at workshops in medieval-style, run by the Katariina Guild’s artists, onlookers can watch as glasswork, ceramics, leather goods, quilts and other items are created right before their eyes. Famous and classic souvenirs from Estonia include handicraft items such as carved wooden beer mugs or felt hats, dark, bittersweet Estonian chocolate or hand-painted marzipan, as well as original art such as ceramics, jewellery or glassware.
Tallinn is a particularly popular shopping destination for the Finnish, as the prices are more moderate and the connection between Helsinki and Tallinn takes less than two hours with a speedboat.
