Lunch en Eefcafé Augustus
A cozy and welcoming café with an extensive lunch and dinner menu, Eetcafé Augustus is a pleasant place to come for a meal or just for a drink. The lunch menu features a variety of simple sandwiches and “broodjes,” as well as some more exotic ones such as smoked salmon with crab and dill sauce, Greek roast beef with tzatziki, or Indian Chicken. There is always a soup of the day, and a nice selection of fresh salads. The dinner menu offers a wide range of main courses, from traditional Dutch meals to wok specialties.

Grand Café Dudok
This café is part of a chain of Dudok restaurants, and is centrally located right across from the Binnenhof, near to the Parliament buildings. It is a large, stylish café that reflects the stately, understated elegance of so many buildings in The Hague. They serve food all day here, and it is an ideal place to come for lunch, for a simple afternoon coffee, or for evening drinks or a meal. One of their specialties is homemade cakes and pastries, varying from day to day and always delicious.

A festive café/pub that has been around for fifteen years, Café Berger is a popular place to eat, drink and socialize. It is located right in the heart of The Hague, and is frequented by many students as well as a fun-loving older crowd. This is a friendly and relaxed “eetcafé” that serves delicious food all day. You can stop here for a quick bite, a somewhat more gourmet meal, or for just a coffee. They also made a variety of homemade cakes and pastries that are very good. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday there is a “happy hour” from 10 - 11 pm when beers and soft drinks are € 1 and wines are € 2.

This spacious café/bar serves great food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is an ideal place to come with a larger group. It is located on a central square with many other cafés and bars, and is a very convenient location to eat or drink after sightseeing. The food is good and not overpriced, and there is a very wide selection of drinks and cocktails. In the summer, a lovely outdoor terrace is set up.

Grand Café Xieje
A cozy and energetic café/bar that draws, Grand Café Xieje is very popular with students as it is right across from a college, but also attracts a more mixed crowd. They have a limited lunch menu and a more extensive dinner one, and serve a very wide selection of refreshing drinks all day long. There are regularly DJs here in the evening playing lively and atmospheric music, and on the weekends live singers sometimes perform here.

Taste

Bar des Indes
Located within the beautiful, landmark Le Méridien Hotel des Indes, this bar is a sophisticated and distinctive place to hang out and have a drink. It has long been a place to see and be seen, and has entertained royalty, politicians, and celebrities since its openeing in 1881. Designed by architect Jacques Garcia, the bar has lost none of its grandeur, and artistically combines modern and traditional elements.

De Boterwaag
The name of this bar means, “The Butterhouse,” and it is a unique and interesting place to visit. Located in an unusual, cavernous building that was once part of the market, it has a welcoming atmosphere and a great selection of drinks and snacks. They serve many kinds of beers, both bottled and draught, a variety of wines, and some exotic cocktails and international drinks as well.

De Paas
This bar is suitably located on a street whose name means “narrow beer wharf,” and specialises in many kinds of Dutch, Belgian, and other European beers. They carry more than 150 bottled beers, some of which are quite unusual, as well as eight or nine kinds of draught beer. If you want something stronger and traditionally Dutch, sample one of their excellent Jenevers, or Dutch gins.

Murphy''s Law
A lively and cozy Irish pub, Murphy’s Law has a wonderfully friendly atmosphere and a nice selection of drinks. In addition to Irish, Dutch, and Belgian beers they serve some excellent wines, malt whiskies, and more. The pub is also known as a music venue, and nearly every evening there is a performance by jazz musicians or a singer.
