The collection was given to the state by King Willem I in 1806. It includes many very famous Dutch paintings, such as Rembrandt’s The Anatomy Lesson, Vermeer’s View of Delft and Girl With a Pearl Earring, and various works by Frans Hals, Jan Steen, Peter Paul Rubens, and Hans Holbein the Younger, among others.
