The Central Museum
One of Utrecht’s best-known musuems, the Central Museum features an extensive collection of art and historical items, specializing in Dutch modern art and the De Stijl group as well as 16th and 17th century Dutch paintings. The latter collection features a group of paintings from various Utrecht masters known as the Caravaggists. There are also many exhibits on the history of Utrecht and Holland, and impressive artifacts such as a preserved Viking longboat from 1100.
Entrance prices: € 8 for adults, € 5 for seniors, students and children 13 - 17, € 2 for children 5 - 12

Aboriginal Art Musuem
This unique musuem specializes in contemporary Aboriginal art from Australia and presents exciting, frequently-changing exhibitions that really bring the power and beauty of this art to life. Each exhibition is generally centered around one theme, and in addition to presenting a variety of artworks, gives the visitor an idea of the Aboriginal lifestyle and culture and an overview of the great diversity of Aboriginal art, explaining characteristics specific to certain regions or artists.

Dutch Railway Musuem (Nederlands Spoorwegmusuem)
This railway musuem is located in a former station from the 19th century and has a wonderful collection of old steam engines, carriages, wagons, and other historic railway equipment on display. There are also intricate moving models, paintings, films and multi media presentations about train travel through the ages, including information on the latest high speed trains. This museum is fascinating for children of all ages and for adults as well.

Nationaal Musuem van Speelklok tot Pierement
The name of this museum means ‘National Museum from Chimes to Barrel Organs’ and features a really unique collection of mechanical musical instruments from the 17th century up to the present. There are around six hundred different mechanical instruments here, including fairground, street, dance hall and belly organs, player pianos, and organ clocks. The musuem is located in a beautiful 13th century church that has been expertly restored.

Musuem Het Catharijneconvent
This musuem is dedicated to religious art and has a wonderful collection of paintings, relics, wood carvings, and church vestments from the 8th century onward. The artifacts and the various exhibits present the history of Christianity in the Netherlands in a vivid and beautiful way. The musuem is located within a former medieval monastery.

Kasteel-Museum Sypesteyn
This art musuem is located within Sypesteyn castle, built in the early 1900s on the ruins of a late-medieval manor house. The musuem’s collection features paintings from the 16th - 18th centuries by Dutch artists such as Moreelse, Maes, and Mierevelt. There are also exhibits of antique weapons, glassware, pottery, and furniture from the same period. The grounds of the castle are also worth seeing, and include a beautiful rose garden and a landscaped garden in the 17th century style.
