by bus
The bright red buses in Valencia are run by a company called EMT. There are fifty-eight different lines, making it easy to get just about anywhere. Forty-five of these are the daytime lines, eight run only at night, and four are beach routes. The many lines may be confusing at first, but the bus maps make the routes pretty clear. Buses usually come every five minutes during the day. You can buy single tickets on the bus, but it is cheaper to buy ten-ride tickets, available from newsstands and tobacco shops. At metro stations, you can also buy passes that work on both buses and the metro. If you decide to get a Valencia Tourist Card, all public transport is free while it is valid.
Valencia
by metro
The Valencia metro has four lines, three of which operate within the city. The other line is a tram that takes you to the beach and also services the suburbs. The metro doesn’t cover the city extensively the way the buses do, but take it to get quickly from one major point of the city to another. Lines 1, 3, and 5 operate underground, but line 4 is more like a tram and runs at street level. The metro system is divided into four zones (A, B, C, and D) and fares vary depending on how many zones you travel through.
Valencia
Taxis
Taxis are not very expensive in Valencia, and are a great way to get around. There are many places you can hail a cab in the city, but some of the major taxi ranks are found at Plaza del Ayuntamiento and Estacion de Norte. It is customary to tip taxi drivers between 5 - 10% of the bill if you are happy with the service.
Valencia
by bike
Renting a bike is a popular way for tourists to explore Valencia, especially in the warmer months. The city makes for easy biking as it is basically flat, and there are many nice bike paths in parks, at the beach, and along the road. There are many places where you can rent a bike at very reasonable rates. One of the most popular is Do You Bike on Calle Marqués de Busianos.
