Theatre and Opera
Art and culture have a long tradition in Vienna. There are a lot of theatres contributing to the cultural life of the city, for example the Burgtheater and its second stage, the Akademietheater, which can be seen as one of the most important playhouses in the world. But also the Volk theatre and the Theatre in der Josefstadt offer cultural pleasure on the highest standards. Beside the big theatres a couple of small stages exist which have no lack of quality at all compared to the big ones. Most of the time they show modern and experimental plays, cabaret or small art in all their facets. But also friends of opera don’t get a raw deal.
|
The State Opera House and the Volksopera offer something for every taste, although latter has been concentrating on operetta and classical musical. You can also attend concerts of classical music for example in the Vienna Musical Society or the Vienna Concert Hall.
But also musicals are very popular, especially in the Theater an der Wien. The House of Music is a museum of sounds for children and adults likewise. The puppet theatre Castle Schönbrunn offers performances with precious marionettes in operas and plays for adults and children.
