by train
Vienna has three major train stations: the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, the Südbahnhof and the Westbahnhof. Besides these three there are several small stations for the local traffic. The national transport is handled by the Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof and the stations in the North and centre of the city. The Stations in the West and South handle the main traffic and the intercity transport. People coming by plane can use the City Airport Train, which goes from the airport Wien-Schwechat to the city centre. There are also two very popular park trains: the Liliputhbahn Prater in the Vienna Prater and the Donauparkbahn in the Donau Park.

Like the trains the highways lead from the city starlike in different directions. Partly they are still named after destinations: (Bundesstraßen) Prager Straße B 3, Brünner Straße B 7, Triester Straße B 17. The same applies to the highways (Autobahnen): A1 Westautobahn, A 2 Südautobahn, A 4 Ostautobahn and A 22 Donauuferautobahn leave the city in star shape. A circular connection between A 2, A 4 and A 22 in the South is called A 23 Wiener Südoststangente for whose relief the S 1, the Vienna Außenring Schnellstraße was built.
