Theatre House Weimar
The theatre was founded as a student project in 1999. It mainly combines unconventional projects, modern theatre, media and film. Especially the cooperation with East European artists is highly appreciated. Each year there are three theatre productions that take place in different locations but are mainly produced in the tram depot of the e-werk Weimar. The infrequent performances are valued especially by the younger generation. During most of the year the theatre house stays as a guest in other local and national European co-productions.
Galli Theatre
This type of theatre cannot be compared with the big theatres but has to be seen with the heart. The Galli is located in the Shakespeares and offers a range of topics in a humorous way. Most of the time myths and fairy tales are used as a model and then presented for the contemporary taste. The theatre sees itself as a place of sophisticated and cultivated entertainment. Guest performances and workshops complete the programme.
Palais Schardt and Goethepavilion
Strolling with candle light and music as well as a theatre, literature and music programme in a special atmosphere are what the Palais Schardt offers its visitors. The performances are held in the hall, the Goethe pavilion, the flavoured garden or in the summer saloon. Guests can enjoy a nice drink, pastry and self-made cake made from recipes of Goethe’s time. The pavilion that belongs to the house is the place where Goethe and Charlotte von Stein, born Schardt, met.
Theater im Gewölbe
This theatre in the Cranach House offers highly pleasurable art in private atmosphere. Goethe and Schiller are always present but also other plays find their way into the programme. The performances are supported by a bar in the café.
National Theatre
The history loaded and traditional house forms the cultural programme of events in Weimar. With more than 600 performances a year, including musical theatre, concerts and plays, the National Theatre and the State Band the city satisfies the cultural hunger of its inhabitants as well as of visitors. The repertoire ranges from classical to contemporary works.
