Restaurants, Bars and Cafés in Weimar
Weimar has a lot of restaurants, some even belong to the best of the whole Thuringian area. An example is the restaurant “Anna Amalia”. But apart from the numerous possibilities to feed you hungry stomach there are lot of nice cafés, bars and pubs. Although Weimar is a small town the amount of bars and pubs comes close to the one of Berlin.
Weimarer Cuisine
Weimar is the stronghold for culinary gourmets. What the Wiener Schnitzel is for the Vienese population the onion cake is for the inhabitants of Weimar. Nearly every bakery has its own recipe – they always differ a bit from each other. The onion cake tastes best when it is still warm. Nevertheless the onion cake is actually not the only speciality that can be offered. The cuisine would be nothing without bacon cake, fried sausage and dumplings. And honestly speaking who doesn’t know about the fried sausage or the “Rostbrätl” which have high season especially during the warm months when people start barbequing. But the sausage is not only a sausage. For the Thuringian people it represents an awareness of life which is depicted especially by the preparation and the consumption of this traditional speciality. Usually the sausage is eaten with a plain role and some local mustard. But nowadays there are already new forms for example with potato salate or Asian like sauces. The same importance in the food consumption applies to the dumpling which used to be served on Sundays in nearly every household.
