"A picture paints a thousand words" so they say. My friend & I took a week long holiday to Hanoi. We decided to book Hanoi Golden Plaza Hotel because in its internet ad, it was described as "newly built in June 2008" - it seems like this hotel is "newly established" or "newly own" by Michael Hake. The photos of the rooms were attractive and prices were reasonable. We only realized that everything seen and read on the internet was a complete misrepresentation of the actual hotel. (The description of this hotel has been aptly described by another user who wasn't too please with what he got. Hence, no need to repeat). Upon our 1st night arrival at this hotel, Peter had kindly "upgraded" us to the Family Rm. After the 1st 2 nights, we decided that we did not want to extend our stay and informed Peter, he immediately "downgraded" us to the Std Rm for our 3rd night, which means we had to move one flr up for a night. After fulfilling our contract agreement of 3 nights, we moved to another hotel about 2 alleys away (1 min. walk). The hotel website says: "The all inclusive price entitles you to breakfast, all day tea/coffee, fruit and welcoming fresh flower in your room." While there was breakfast, we didn't even see a single fresh leaf in the room upon check-in, let alone any welcome fresh flowers. Well, I must say that apart from Peter (brother of Michael), the other hotel staff (potter, chambermaid, driver) were polite and helpful, although there was language barrier. Coincidentally, a few people we met during our week-long trip, who had also stayed in this hotel, had the same experience of Peter not being very friendly - the vibes from him was definitely not positive. All these people had also stayed for a night or 2 before moving to another hotel. In conclusion, I will not recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hanoi.
