Seville is blessed with a wide variety of shops in different areas, including smaller shops as well as the larger department or chain stores. The main shopping area is the square between the Plazas Nueva, Magdalena, Encarnacion and San Fransisco with the Calle Sierpes in the middle. The shops around La Campana and the streets of Tetuán and Sierpes include many traditional shops selling ceramics, embroidery, flamenco costumes, guitars but also modern fashion. The Nervión area hosts many department stores while the other side of the river, Los Remedios, has many boutiques. For handicrafts the best address is the ceramic market in Triana. No visit to Seville is complete without a visit to the quarter of the gypsies but if you don’t have time you can find ceramic works in many shops elsewhere, too. The Alfalfa area, especially around the Cabeza del Rey Don Pedro Street, hosts a great number of antique shops and galleries which exhibit and sell mainly contemporary art. But there are also some antique shops in other areas, mainly in the shopping district. Another option for buying antiques is the market on Thursdays on Feria Street.
Most of the shops are open from 9.30 / 10 am – 2 pm and then from 5 pm – 8 pm Monday to Friday. On Saturdays shops are open from 10 am – 2 pm, although some larger department stores might be open even longer. Credit cards are accepted by a large number of shops. Residents from the EU might have their Value Added Tax (VAT) returned for purchases of more than € 90.15.
The Seville Card, which is available at tourist centres, gives discounts for certain shops, restaurants, shows and leisure centres. Furthermore, the card enables you to use the public transport for free and also have a free access to most museums in the city.
