Nightlife

As famous as Tallinn is for being a beautiful medieval town, in certain circles it is even better known as a good place to party. Considered by many to be the party capital of northern Europe, the nightlife in Tallinn is vibrant, uninhibited and not too expensive either. The city’s reputation as a great place to get drunk and meet beautiful women has led to a higher than average number of single male tourists invading the country, primarily from Britain. But if you know where to go, you can avoid the touristy side of Tallinn nightlife, often verging on the sleazy.
There are all manner of pubs and bars in the city, from classy, upmarket ones to local dives, and plenty of English and Irish pubs. It’s usually easy to tell from the outside which establishments cater for the tourist hordes, and pubs displaying a British flag and advertising an “alcoholics happy hour” are best avoided. Most of the nightlife activity is conveniently centered in the Old Town, where all the popular hotspots are just a stone’s throw from each other. Tallinn’s clubs are famous for their free, bohemian atmosphere and wild party nights, but there are some classy, sophisticated “lounge clubs” as well. Most clubs only really get going after midnight, and the weekends are much more lively than weekdays.
