 | Hotel and Flight; the last minute choice |

The summer is not yet finished. And it might just begin in some part of Europe. Most of the people have probably already booked their holidays. But as usual there is always an amount of people deciding at the last moment to go on holiday and where to go. The choice could be determined by special offers, delivered by advertisements of travel agencies: “8 days Malaga from 349 Euro”; “All in one, 4 star hotel and flight from 410 Euro”.
If you don’t want to think and just take the easy option of a special offer, this article is nothing for you. But the ones who want to make their own decision even at the last minute and those who don’t loose hope in finding some cheaper combinations at the last moment might read further.
I have chosen 3 offers, one from a traditional travel agency (X), another from a company which started as an airline and now combines hotel offers (Y), the last one from an international well known online travel agency (Z). Three popular destinations are chosen, from the Netherlands to Kreta, Alanya and Ibiza. The holiday is for the month of August, for 8 days and chosen are 3 star hotels (half pension).
The cheapest offer for Alanya by the traditional travel agency (X) is 526 euro/pp.
Y-offer for Kreta costs 556 Euro/pp and Z-offer for Ibiza costs 772 euro/pp.
My research starts with Alanya; the cheapest flight in august costs 330 euro; a hotel for 8 days for 147 Euro; total costs 477 Euro/pp. It takes 10 minutes to find this kind of combination.
For Kreta a flight ticket is 359 Euro and a hotel 280 Euro; total price 639 euro. Search time: 7 minutes.
For Ibiza the total costs are 570 Euro (255 Euro for the ticket and 320 Euro for the hotel). This search took 5 minutes.
The prices differ a lot; in two cases I could find cheaper combinations. For Ibiza the amount is quite big. Probably, the offers given by national agencies are cheaper. The prices for Ibiza were found at an international travel agency. Whatever, even a quick research might deliver interesting results. Flight and hotel combinations offered by travel agencies might not be as cheap as we usually think.
If we had made the search a couple of months ago, we would definitely have found cheaper options. Especially flight tickets would have been much cheaper.
Actually, it doesn’t take that much time to book your holiday on the internet. Within half an hour you can book your flight ticket and a hotel of your choice. The only problem that might occur is the availability of hotel rooms. But without doubt this kind of problems will be solved within few years as well.
