 | The new face of the Grand Hotel Europe, St. Petersburg |
 |
The highly regarded Grand Hotel Europe in St. Petersburg has successfully completed the third stage of its refurbishing process. 12 totally new “Belle Chambres”, luxury one bedroom suites, have been reopened after a change of design and renovation. In 2005 the first full-scale modernising process started in order to upgrade the hotel’s interior according to the classical 19th – 20th century design. As a result of the three stages of refurbishment, the interiors of 82 Classic Standard Rooms, 115 Classic Superior Rooms and 11 Classic Suites have been timely and successfully renovated.
Special features were added to the hotel, like a canopy over the entrance and a heated pavement that keeps the entrance of snow and ice in winter. The annexed Caviar Bar was turned into a luxurious establishment thanks to crystal elements and exclusive furniture.
The third stage of refurbishment measurements includes the restyling and redesigning of the Mezzanine Café which is located directly in the hotel. A highlight is the glass roof through which the café can be illuminated. The décor resembles the beauty and majestic facades of St. Petersburg''s buildings.
The lift portals were also renovated and redecorated in marble and sandstone, featuring stylised wrought lanterns replicating traditional St Petersburg street lanterns. The classic St Petersburg streetlamp, which has become such an integral part of the city''s architecture and appearance, was designed by the French architect Jean LeBlond, who came to St Petersburg in 1718 at the invitation of Peter I.
