 | Lufthansa’s aims in environment and climate protection |

Lufthansa declared its new strategy in its environmental and climatic programme. By 2020 the group wants to have made a progress in environmental efficiency and hence takes measurements for realising its ambitious plans. The airlines programme regarding environment, climate protection and social responsibility is documented in the group’s Sustainability Report “Balance” which will be published shortly.
I recent years Lufthansa has achieved half of its traffic growth without an increase in CO2 emission. Keeping this achievement and even reducing the emissions is included in a four-pillar strategy which was set up between different airlines. The aim is to standardise the air traffic by implementing a Single European Sky. The strategy is built around 15 guidelines that include a wide range of practicable measures for climate protection in the operation of air traffic. Lufthansa supports ecologically oriented incentive systems that are based on an economic ground for example emission-based landing fees which were introduced at the airports in Munich and Frankfurt.

Lufthansa’s goal is to support noise abatement measures, find solutions for including air traffic in emissions trading in order to contribute to halving noise emissions by 2020.
