by bus
Within the city of Huelva, buses are really the only form of public transportation and are a good way of getting around. The nine bus lines ensure that all the areas of Huelva are well-connected. Information on bus routes and timetables can be found at the main bus station in the centre (Calle Doctor Rubio 959) as well as posted at most bus stops. From the main bus station, buses depart regularly for other cities and attractions in Andalusia, such as Seville, Punta Umbría, Ayamonte, Mazagón, and the Monasterio de la Rábida. There are also one or two buses a day to Faro, Portugal, Cádiz, Granada and Tarifa. Tickets are bought on the bus.

Taxis
Taxis are a good way of getting around Huelva and the surrounding areas. The best places to find taxis are around the train station and on Calle Plus Ultra, and you can always call one to come pick you up. Information on the different taxi services is available from any hotel. Taxi meters are fairly standardized, and they will all charge a bit more during late hours, siesta hours, and public holidays. A tip of between 10-15% of the meter price is normal. Many taxi drivers only speak Spanish, so it’s a good idea to learn some Spanish phrases or carry a dictionary around.

by train
Huelva is not big enough to have its own train system, but there are many trains connecting Huelva to other Spanish cities. There are four types of train services in Spain, the AVE high-speed trains, Talgo 200 trains, Grandes Lineas (long-distance) trains, and regional trains. Both AVE trains and Grandes Lineas lines connect Huelva to big cities in north and central Spain. The nearest city to Huelva where you can catch the high-speed AVE train to the north is Seville, but the regular-speed Grandes Lineas train connects Huelva directly with Madrid and Barcelona. Regional trains run through most of the cities in Andalucia, and from Huelva routes terminate in Seville and Merida. Train tickets are sold according to class and are usually reasonably priced. Advance booking is recommended for AVE trains and the Grandes Lineas trains, especially when travelling on weekends or holidays.

by car
Travelling around by car is a great way to see Huelva, especially if you plan to visit nearby cities. A network of motorways connects all the cities and small towns in Andalusia and makes them easily accessible from other areas of Spain. Roads are well-maintained and the road signs are usually easy to follow.
Car rental agencies are located in several places in the city, one very near to the main train station.
