We have just returned from an excellent week at the Choupana Hills including the Easter weekend. The location is superb, the views of Funchal are spectacular (if the clouds aren't down), the rooms are large and comfortable, and we have not found better and more friendly and helpful staff anywhere in the world. They are wonderful with children. Some pointers. The hotel is high up in the hills overlooking Funchal, and can be cloudy and cold when the town itself is warm and sunny. Some of the rooms (individual suites or pairs of bungalows in the grounds) are a good walk uphill and up steps to the two main hotel buildings. Always ask for a room with a view of the bay. The courtesy bus is excellent. The interesting food (fusion) is of a very high standard. The hotel has the advantage of both a well heated outdoor pool and a good sized indoor pool. There is plenty of space for everyone to relax and attentive staff to provide fresh towels, drinks and snacks. We would all go back without hesitation.

The Choupana Hills Resort & Spa Hotel Funchal is situated just ten minutes outside of the bustling city on Funchal. A beautiful building of wood and stone, the hotel comprises 34 bungalow-style units surrounded by splendid gardens. All rooms have verandas, unusually large areas and a view to Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean. Two larger buildings are also on site, housing the indoor leisure areas, library, seminar room and the spa. The bar and restaurant are located separately in one of the buildings. Choupana Hills Health and Beauty Spa is a serene area offering innovative methods of relaxation, massage and treatments. Leisure facilities also include two heated swimming pools, one outdoor lagoon swimming pool and another indoors in the spa area.
